Allow me to introduce Isabella Marie, my very first niece. I am so smitten with her that I can hardly stand it! She is already three weeks old & I can't believe I haven't gotten to hold her yet! My sister lives in Texas & due to our schedules, I won't be able to see her until March! (unless I lose self control and hop on the next plane there...which I might.)

I'm going to postpone the "what happened on my birthday" post I had planned for today because my gifts haven't arrived yet & I'd like to share those with you guys in that post.
Instead, I'd like to share something I think is pretty awesome. The hunk & his bandmates are super proud of it, as well they should be, & I'm pretty proud of it too. My part was super minimal, but it's still fun to be a part of something you think is special.
This is the cover & the inside flap artwork of Beitthemeans's newest album, Held Held High, which was released back in October. The album is incredible & is available on iTunes here. I've had these pictures forever & have just been dying over them, but wasn't allowed to post them until the album came out. Wouldn't you know the album came out 3 months ago & I'm just now getting around to posting them?!?
The picture is of the lead singer's son, Marco & the little girl is my eventual step daughter, Lucy. My job was to dress Lucy & I thought this dress was just perfect. It's vintage, of course, and it's a piece from EBV Kiddos, my kid's only vintage shop, which will debut online early this Spring.
So...keep your eyes peeled for the launch of EBV Kiddos & if you are so inclined, go grab yourself a copy of the album on iTunes. You'll be glad you did.

Hello, ladies! Happy Wednesday to you!
We are having quite the day/week over here. The weather in Alabama has been so ridiculous lately. 75 & 35 in the same week. I've worn shorts & a heavy coat in the same week. It's KILLING my asthma & although I don't know if it has anything to do with it or not, I'm also blaming it for the raging ear infection I have right now. Oh yes, I am a 27 year old with an ear infection. I didn't even know you could get an ear infection after Kindergarten. And I'm too stubborn to go to the doctor, so I will just tough it out. Any home remedies you want to share? I'm all (painful) ears. :-(
I thought today was the perfect day to share some pretty things, since they always improve my mood.

My mother shared something with me last week that I have been dying to share with you guys. These are my grandparents' wedding photos from 1961. Even though they are both married to other people now (both of whom I absolutely adore), these pictures just melt my heart. My grandmother is just stunning. (And that dress? Gasp! How beautiful!) She was, is, and always will be an inspiration to me. And yes, she is still a total fox.

Monday Report: Weekend in Review

Hope you guys had a great weekend. We had a super chill, super awesome one. Plenty of relaxing & down time. We typically travel with the band on the weekends, but they had the weekend off & we stayed home & caught up on a bunch of things on our "we need to get around to that" list. We also had THREE kids this weekend. This is the first time we've ever been in charge of more people than us! My best friend let us keep her sweet girl Saturday night, so we had three little ladies! Good times.

Inspiration: The Story of a Jerk

Hello, ladies & Happy Sunday to you!
Here's something you may not know about me: I used to be a waitress. In fact, I was a waitress for a super long time before www.shopEBV.com became my full time gig.
I loved vintage for as long as I can remember & I have collected it since I was old enough to buy my own clothes. 8 or 10 years ago, I had a boyfriend whose mother I became very close to (& still am very close with) & she taught me how to sew, which, is pretty helpful if you want to consistently wear vintage, since a lot of times vintage pieces need slight repairs. I also like to alter vintage or repurpose it, which is something I couldn't do without knowing how to sew. Anyway, the relationship fizzled out with her son, but she was fundamental in inspiring me & my wardrobe. I am thrilled to have met her & have her in my life.
So, onto the story. So, here I am, way back, years ago, in college, waiting tables, collecting vintage, kind of (ok really) confused about what path my life is going to take. I'm at work. I've worked about 6 hours of a 10 hour shift...and in comes the man that kinda changed my life.
This man comes in with his wife & sits in my section. I am busy with another table & he sits there a few minutes before I make it over to greet him. (The place is PACKED & he can CLEARLY see me standing at the table beside him, helping them with whatever it was.) Anyway, I walk over there & say hello & apologize for the wait. He is immediately super cranky & rude. Doesn't think he should have had to wait...blah, blah, blah...anybody that has ever waited tables knows his type. Mr. I Cannot be Pleased No Matter What. I try to turn the mood of the table around being my typical bubbly self. Nothing works. When I realize he's just going to be this way, I decide to lose the bubbly attitude & continue to wait on him with a rather unaffected, blah attitude. This guy is full on rude jerk for the entire duration of his visit. They eat. He pays. They leave. I go to clean off the table & I find his credit card receipt with no monetary tip (go figure) & instead a little "message" in the tip line: GET A JOB YOU LIKE. (in all caps) Instead of running outside after this guy & explaining that I do, in fact, like my job, I just don't like jerks like him, I just stuffed the credit card receipt in my pocket & moved on with my day.
Later that night while I was cleaning cherrios off the floor underneath another table, I had an epiphany. This guy was right. I need to "GET A JOB I LIKE". Like REALLY LIKE. LIKE REALLY, REALLY LIKE. I went home that night after work & created the name & the original business plan for Everybody's Buying Vintage. I ended up quitting that job a few weeks later. Financially, I had to go back to it & I ended up working stints there several times over the next few years, but from then on, I always knew I would do what I love. And now, I do. Full time. Everyday. And I couldn't be happier. It's not always easy & it's not always fun (not going to lie...it usually is pretty fun), but I am extremely passionate about it & I think I'm really good at it. I am so appreciative for the support of my incredible, super hunky boyfriend & my family & of course, my unbelievably amazing EBV customers.
Now, the receipt is framed (pretty sure I wasn't supposed to take it home, oh well) & it sits on my desk. I look at it every single day & I am constantly reminded of the hard work & determination it took to make EBV the business it is today & it keeps me focused on making EBV what it can & will be in the future.
So, all that is to say, Mr. ICantReadYourNameAnymoreBecauseTheReceiptIsSuperOldAndFaded, I still think you are a huge jerk. I hope you have since found happiness & stopped taking your frustrations out on unsuspecting waitresses, but I also thank you. Your random act of rudeness inspired me to follow my dreams. You actually kind of changed my life.

Hello, Hello, & Happy Thursday to you!
So it's no secret to anyone that knows me (or follows my twitter) that 2011 wasn't exactly my best year. I mean, it was alright, and it definitely had it's high points, but overall, it really just seemed like I had a black cloud following me around some days. I am typically a super positive person & always the one keeping everybody else's spirits high when they get down, but I also have really terrible luck sometimes (ok, a lot of times), so some days that's tougher than others.

However, one of 2011's high points was definitely my collaboration with Molly Green. I fell hard & fast for that delightful shop & the sisters behind it. They remind me so much of me & my little sister, who moved to Texas last year. I think having them around made it easier on me when my sister moved. They carry eco-friendly designer clothes & jewelry & as of Novemeber 2011, they also carry a curated vintage collection from Everybody's Buying Vintage.

Anyhow, we had a vintage Christmas party in the shop & I just got around to checking out these photos of Anna (one of the Molly Green girls) & I. How fun are photobooths, really? Geez, so fun!
In other news, I need to announce that I got my very first niece yesterday! Isabella Marie was born at 7:34 yesterday morning! She weighed 9 lbs, 13 ounces (everything is bigger in Texas, right?) &she is just the most amazing thing ever. I am SO PROUD of her & I can't wait to get to Texas & get my hands on her! I wish I could leave right this minute! Congratulations to Laura & Greg & welcome to baby Bella! You guys can expect some extreme aunt bragging & crazy baby picture posting to follow.

2011 may have kind of sucked, but so far...2012 has been ALL SMILES.

well, hello there & merry christmas to you!

we had a most enjoyable week here in southern usa. christmas is so much fun when you have little ones. we got to spend tons of time together, see lots of family & of course, open gifts! the big gift this year were matching ipod touches with hot pink cases for the girls...but being the way that we are, we thought it would be much more memorable if we totally tricked them first. we got them big time! you can watch the video of it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4qhoMSFQ80. we thought it was hilarious & they were so happy. a win/win.

diy: decoupage train cases.

i came across the cutest idea this morning via ModPodgeRocks & jane's apron. i love decoupage & i am dying to try this particular project out. maybe even take a few down to EBV-birmingham eventually. i have long loved vintage train cases & this is just almost too much cute! decoupaging is super easy...give it a try!

for this project you will need: a vintage traincase, pictures to decoupage (our favorite things to use for decoupaging are magazines, catalogs, photos, postcards, travel brochures, vintage wallpaper, & dried flowers), decoupage medium (we recommend this one.) , a popsicle stick (to smooth wrinkles & remove excess glue), foam brush (to spread glue), scissors, tweezers (helpful for placing small photos), & a damp rag to wipe up excess glue.

steps:
1. make sure train case is clean.
2. cut pictures.
3. arrange pictures before you add glue.
4. use a generous amount of glue.
5. use popsicle stick to push down pictures & smooth out excess glue.
6. once all your pictures are dry, coat item completely in decoupage medium.
7. continue to add the medium until you get the desired result. just make sure you keep adding it until pictures are smooth.
8. be sure to let it dry completely.
9. while you are waiting on your traincase to dry, CLICK HERE! to go check out all the awesome vintage auctions ending tonight at ebv.

hello, friends!

well, i knew eventually i'd get around to blogging about this summer's most excellent adventure. we had an awesome time at bonnaroo! we really, really enjoyed ourselves! it was hot as (no...HOTTER THAN) hell, but we survived with lots of water & misting bottles. next year i'm buying a generator and we are running fans all week.
anyway, i was super pleased with our setup. i met so many awesome girls (& guys. see sunglasses photo), sold some lovely vintage, heard lots of music, & basically just enjoyed a week out on a farm with that handsome boy of mine.

we saw widespread panic, eminem, lil' wayne, pretty lights, & bassnectar. (honestly, i could have probably lived without most of those acts, but i do love me some widespread panic. we could only leave the booth at certain hours every night (except for when we "snuck out" for panic) & so our music selection wasn't exactly our first choices, but that's not really why we were there, so whatev.

we rode the ferris wheel. we went to the silent disco, which was super neat. a big disco where everyone wears earphones to listen to the DJ spinning. everybody's dancing & having fun, but to anyone that walks by...silence. it was pretty cool.

backtrack: wakarusa music festival.

hey, hey pretty ladies!
we're hoooome! finally! we've been all over the place & i'm super excited to share our adventures with you, but there's a lot, so i'm going to do a series of "backtrack" posts to fill you all in. we did wakarusa the first week in june & just had the most fun. some of our favorite friends vended right beside us, so we got to have a whole week of hanging out & hanging fun mixed in with (a little) work . :-)
some really pretty dresses found new homes. we made some new friends. we saw some great music. we don't typically get away from the booth at these festivals, but we managed to break away long enough to see grace potter & the nocturnals (who, by the way, is incredible!) & ben harper.
we left arkansas the next monday morning & headed to memphis to spend the night in the fanciest hotel we could reasonably afford (we had been sleeping in a tent for a week. i was ready for a touch of luxury. ha.) & go out on beale street. had a couple of beers. ate some yummy bbq. we woke up the next morning & super thrifted all through memphis, including, ahem, the world's largest thrift store, which unfortunately, was a tad disappointing. they had some incredible vintage pieces in there, but sadly, they were all in terrible condition. so frustrating! i did find a late 50's/early 60's floral party dress, which i think my seamstress can probably salvage. i'm going to give it a shot.

hey, hey, pretty ladies!
well...we're outta here, folks. the time has finally come to head out on our summer vending extravaganza. presley is being spoiled rotten by her grandmother. (this is the longest i've ever been away from her since she was born...i'm nervous, but i know she is having a great time. :( ) i got the first run of savannah marie, my new vintage inspired clothing line, in last night (see photos for just a few of the many new pieces). we will have all of those plus tons & tons of incredible vintage dresses, tops, skirts, jewelry, bags & head scarves. i'm telling you...it's going to be awesome!
anyway, we are finally all packed up & ready to go & will be heading out here in just a minute. i hope you guys can catch up with us somewhere on the road this month! my favorite part of these trips is meeting my customers.

happy memorial day!
hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend full of family, sunshine & bbq! we had to cut our holiday weekend a little short yesterday, as the time has FINALLY come for us to leave on our big summer vending adventure trip today, but we had such a fun time. we went camping at point mallard with the nathan's family & the girls. we woke up super early friday morning (5 am!) to see the big hot air balloon launch. (we let the girls go in their pjs!) it was so awesome! we checked out an arts & crafts fair & an antique car show (this is all pre-10 AM lol) & we spent the rest of the day at the waterpark. waterslides, wave pools, water filled playground...it was a kiddo dream in there!
we got some sun, ate some yummy food. it was a delightful time!
