The Good, the Bad, and the Downright Ugly: Vintage + Couture at the Oscars

I saw so many dresses at the Oscars that just melted my heart. I really, really, REALLY love couture. (Who doesn't right??) Let's talk about it.

First up, the gorgeous Penelope Cruz. It is just beautiful and it's vintage Balmain. "I found this dress eight years ago and I was saving it for something very special," said the actress. (Who does that sound like? Me! If you guys only knew how many outfits I buy in anticipation of the "perfect event".) *Swoon.*

Next, my fave dress of the evening, the adorable Miley Cyrus in Zuhair Morad. I've read many differing opinions on this dress, but I ADORE it. I think it is STUNNING and a great choice for her. I'm indifferent about the belt. It's alright, but I'm thinking I'd preferred the dress sans belt.

Worth noting: SJP in Dior Haute Couture. Would we have expected anything else from Carrie? Of course not!

Another one of my faves: Anne Hathaway in Armani Prive.

Here's a risky one: Viola Davis in Reem Acra. Personally, I love it. Would I wear it? Probably not. This is one of those looks only a very specific person can pull of...and Ms. Davis is one of them! Bravo!

Next up, another one we adore: Evan Rachel Wood's haute couture gown by Elie Saab. Gorgeous.

We also have to give a nod to Tilda Swinton's Lanvin number. While it isn't necessarily my personal taste, I appreciate the piece and I appreciate her avant garde approach to the red carpet. Ok in our book.

Alrighty, and now onto the ones I wasn't so crazy about.

Jessica Biel, we love you...what were you thinking? We love Prada. We love the idea of the dress, but it just didn't deliver well.

Beyonce: no. no. just no. You're so much better than this less than desirable gown. eek. Has to be my least favorite of the night.

...and that's all folks. Thanks for reading. Now go shop: Everybody's Buying Vintage
